He says there are now three dominant technologies for thin-film solar: amorphous silicon, copper indium gallium selenide and cadmium telluride. In actual production, amorphous silicon and cadmium telluride are also commonly used.

However, both techniques have obvious disadvantages. Ma said that the use of amorphous silicon, the conversion rate is low, consumables large. With cadmium telluride, toxic cadmium and telluride materials must be disposed of and recycled after 25 years of use.

Therefore, the mainstream of the next generation of new thin-film solar cells is the use of copper indium gallium selenide materials. "This material not only has a high conversion rate, but it also has the lowest production cost." Ma said that compared with traditional materials, copper indium gallium selenide solar has the advantages of high current density, low cost and suitable for large-scale production.

The research and development and application of new materials also solve the "bottleneck" of the development of solar photovoltaic industry, and achieve low cost and industrial mass production. Ma suggested that when entering the solar photovoltaic industry, new production materials should be closely selected.
